Sketching people in La Spezia and Marina di Massa

Kölner Dom/ Cologne Cathedral

sketch

koelnerdom

A drawing I did during a lunch break at the Solution Space (an office building right next to the Cologne Cathedral). What is weird that you need some distance to actually “see” the cathedral, which most people don´t realize, because they are using the wide angle lenses of their cameras anyway. If you don´t see the whole structure, which you can´t from this the elements get quite confusing. So this is kind of an honest view of the Cologne cathedral….

Nippes

Uncategorized

This is a house in Köln Nippes (probably Merheimerstr). I always enjoy sketching when abroad and don´t do that very often. So I thought I´ll just choose something around the corner. One of the worst things about looking for a place to draw is the lack of something to sit on. I made a lot of comparatively boring drawings because I had to compromise. Drawing something around the corner has the big advantage that you can bring a chair with you…

I should do this more often….

Sketches for Bärenbraut

Animation, illustration

These slightly older pictures have been online for about a month, but they are perhaps a little hidden. I have uploaded a lot of new pictures while updating the homepage part of this blog, but I guess only very few people have seen this already, so I thought I would like to bring this to your attention.

If you want to know more about these pictures read what I have written about my film Bärenbraut:

Pirates Comic

“Pirat voraus, Käptn Klaus” has finally appeared:

http://www.amazon.de/Pirat-voraus-K%C3%A4pten-Klaus-St%C3%B6rtebeker/dp/3401600168/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1407684500&sr=8-4&keywords=derek+roczen

I take this as an opportunity to show one more page and the sketches I did beforehand. Those are an exception because I did the initial sketch digitally, which is because the layout was rather complicated. Normally I prefer ordinary pencil sketches.

Ireland Sketches II

illustration, sketch

Part II of drawings from my yearlong stay in Dublin in 2007 for a gallery in my sketchbook section. The dark drawing is from Wellington Quay in Dublin. I took some liberties with the houses surrounding the hotel, which indicates that I have finished the drawing at home.

The next drawing is from Glengariff. Many people in Ireland thought I was Scottish (which means my German accent went through some weird metamorphosis), in this case I chatted with a charming old lady from Edinburgh while I made this drawing, who was surprised I was German (“… I .thought you were from Scotland, too”).

The third one is from round the corner where I used to live in Rathmines.
